Starting a new business venture can often be a difficult and time consuming situation if you plan to utilize a web site as your primary source of business activities without already having the necessary knowledge and resources to do so. "Is it affordable" or "Will it be easy to maintain" are often the main areas of concern for people who are starting a new business online.
About The Client
Malhi Media Inc specializes in helping businesses gain presence and exposure through the use of online advertisements and traditional offline marketing mediums. Founded by Tony Malhi, who obtains over 5 years of television experience working as the main host for the popular Asian Connections TV program, the company’s goal has always been to find new ways to help reach out to the South Asian community in order to promote its rich and diverse culture.
Initial Goals and Challenge
When we were approached by Malhi Media inc, they had a vision to create a large and comprehensive online business directory that would specifically be geared in promoting the South Asian business community in the BC area such as Vancouver. As one would expect, this would be a fairly large web project as aside from the web design and web programming tasks in creating the site and directory, it would also require an online system that would also provide them with the ability to easily maintain business listings and advertisements.
Client Thoughts
During the past year we have seen our community grasp on to the Internet and use it as a tool for business and advertising. Even though the community has grown with this relationship, we feel there is great potential to do more. We came up with the idea of having an online Indian directory that would give potential businesses the ability to advertise on a grand scale through different forms of media with the Internet being the most important. We wanted to create an easy to navigate directory that would be easily maintainable and provided businesses the ability to showcase their products and service. While we had big goals and dreams to create a site that would have a huge positive impact in our community, we knew that we could not do this alone and went to seek the help of a professional.
Solution and Results
Our final product was an appealing site which consisted of 100+ pages while also incorporating a custom made content management system that enables the company to manage all of its client information and site advertisements. Aside from the general functions of the web site, our consultation also made them aware that developing the site to be search engine friendly would also be beneficial in attracting new visitors who use search engines to find information. With this in mind, the site directory was developed to be search engine friendly. While it was definitely a challenge, they now have a site that they can proudly promote.
