Multimedia CDs are often a medium used by individuals and companies to help distribute information. Brochures, business cards and corporate presentations are just some of the most common usages of an interactive CD-Rom.
About The Client
Encore Art Group is the parent company of two recognizable and distinct brands: Canadian Art Prints (CAP) and Winn Devon. With over 70 years of combined experience, CAP and Winn Devon have become leaders in the art publishing industry.
Showcasing an eclectic mix of open edition prints, limited edition prints, high-quality original artwork, framed and finished art, art cards, and gift products from almost 400 artists worldwide, its products are displayed globally from museums to many retail locations and galleries.
Encore Art Group distributes its wide array of products to hi-end retail, galleries, hospitality, commercial interior designers, and mid-market segment of the home decor industry.

Initial Goals and Challenge
While for years Encore Art Group has used catalogues as its preferred method of providing its customers with its current line up of art work, the company had a desire to place all of this information into a CD-Rom. Each CD catalogue, consisting of over 1000 images each, would also be designed with a similar theme as its catalogue counterparts.
While most interactive CDs consist of mainly static information where the user could simply browse through various pre-made sections on the CD to view information, Encore Art Group had a more ambitious goal of creating an interactive CD that would allow its customers to be able to dynamically search through the CD utilizing a search engine.
Without the resources of a traditional web site to utilize a database solution to create a search function, the CD project would prove to be a challenge compared to a typical interactive CD.

Client Thoughts
With increased requests for a digital format of our printed catalogues from our customers, coupled with recent advances in technology, we thought it was time to oblige our customers.
However, we wanted to provide more than just files on a cd. While we weren't exactly sure on the best way to approach it, we were looking to create a product that would provide our customers the ability to navigate through our catalogue in an interactive format that would not only showcase and maintain the quality of our product, but also provide a user-friendly tool for our customer base.

Solution and Results
Going beyond web technologies and utilizing more complex programming algorithms that are usually meant for standalone software development, our team of programmers were able to create a self functioning search engine that streamed data from a custom made virtual database.
The result was a fast and efficient search feature that allowed users to quickly locate various art work by simply inputting various keywords or product codes. The design elements of the CD also required us to work closely with Encore Art Group's brochure designers and in the end we were not only able to capture the original look and feel of the brochures utilizing a Flash based design, but we were also able to produce high quality image galleries of the art pieces and was still able to fit it all into a CD.
The end result is a pair of professionally made interactive CD brochures that will be used by Encore Art Group to further solidify its position as a leader in the art publishing industry.
